According to a report on News 12 tonight Equifax has established a dedicated website, www.equifaxsecurity2017.com, to help consumers determine if their information has been potentially impacted.

You can also sign up for credit file monitoring and identity theft protection.

The offering, called TrustedID Premier, includes 3-Bureau credit monitoring of Equifax, Experian and TransUnion credit reports; copies of Equifax credit reports; the ability to lock and unlock Equifax credit reports; identity theft insurance; and Internet scanning for Social Security numbers – all complimentary to U.S. consumers for one year.

Consumers with additional questions visit www.equifaxsecurity2017.com or contact a dedicated call center at 866-447-7559, which the company set up to assist consumers.

The call center is open every day (including weekends) from 7:00 a.m. – 1:00 a.m. Eastern time.

150 Signatures Needed for Petition to Vote No on Proposed Yonkers Transfer Tax Increase to 3%

Most probably know by now about the proposed 2016-17 Yonkers Budget that includes a proposed tax rate increase of 0.95% which translates to an  annual increase of approximately $77 for the average home assessed at $11,300.

What you may not know is that Mayor Spano's budget also includes a Proposed Transfer Tax Increase  from 1.5% to 3%.  The tax would decline over a period of seven years back to 1.5%

What does that mean for the average homeowner?

"There is a Real Estate Transfer Tax on the sale of all real property in the City of Yonkers. This tax is 1.5% of the selling price and the seller is required to pay the tax.  No tax is required if a sale is $25,000 or less." 

Homeowners are upset and feel strongly that the proposed increase is an unfair burden on seniors and homeowners in general.  It will also adversely impact the sale of homes in Yonkers, NY which already has more than it's share of nuisance taxes.

While the proposed budget contains no cuts in services or layoffs and will mean additional money for the public schools it is only a temporary measure to a long term problem.

There is a movement via the Vote No - Sign the Change.org Petition to Yonkers City Council that you can sign to let your voice be heard.

2015 Second Quarter Sales Show Spring Buying Season Extending into Summer

The 2015 Second Quarter Home Sales in Westchester County show that the Spring Buying season has truly extended into Summer.

Orange County saw the greatest increase at +30.4% followed by Putnam County at +12.3%, Westchester County at +11.4%  followed by Rockland County at +11.2%  all of which contributed significantly to the 2015 Housing Recovery we are experiencing.

Summer Home Maintenance Tips - An Ounce of Prevention

Back in the Spring, we discussed the importance of keeping your home in shape to keep it running at its best.  With Summer just around the corner, we will have more time to do the things that we enjoy.  I thought now would be a good time to share the Summer to-do list to help keep you on track with minimal stress and more time to enjoy the Summer months ahead.  You know what they say "An ounce of prevention..."

• If applicable have your septic tank system inspected to ensure it's in good working order.
• Have your lateral sewer lines inspected and cleared.
• Inspect your sidewalks, driveways, patios, bricks and other concrete surfaces for cracks.  Repair as needed.
• Inspect decks, steps and wooden structures for rot and other damage. Repair as soon as possible to avoid further damage.
• Power wash siding, decks and driveway. 
• Weatherproof all wooden surfaces if it's been two year or more since you last did it.
• Check the eaves around your homes roof, chimney, caps, etc.. remove any nests and repair and replace any damaged areas.

Interior

• Change and clean HVAC filters.
• Remove hair from drains in tubs, sinks and showers.
• Examine electrical cords for wear.
• Inspect washer hoses and dryer vent system.
• Finally, test all safety equipment: smoke detectors, carbon monoxide detectors and fire extinguishers.

You did it, you have completed your to-do list and all systems are go!

Why not head out and enjoy a relaxing day on the shore or poolside to unwind - Go ahead.....

You deserve it!

Yonkers African American Heritage Committee - Citywide Juneteenth Heritage Festival & Parade 2015

My apologies as I'm a day late with this announcement.... But there is still time to check out the City wide Juneteenth Heritage Festival in Yonkers, NY which kicked off on Friday, June 5th with a Pan-African Flag Raising Ceremony at City Hall.

Today's don't miss event will showcase "Black Towns in America" with American journalist, educator, author, and activist Herb Boyd at the Yonkers Riverfront Library 1-4PM. 

The Heritage Festival will conclude on Sunday, June 7th with a Morning Worship Service followed a panel discussion on Umoja and Uhuru and the always highly anticipated Heritage Parade and Festival at Trevor Park.
