Yonkers African American Heritage Committee - Citywide Juneteenth Heritage Festival & Parade 2015

My apologies as I'm a day late with this announcement.... But there is still time to check out the City wide Juneteenth Heritage Festival in Yonkers, NY which kicked off on Friday, June 5th with a Pan-African Flag Raising Ceremony at City Hall.

Today's don't miss event will showcase "Black Towns in America" with American journalist, educator, author, and activist Herb Boyd at the Yonkers Riverfront Library 1-4PM. 

The Heritage Festival will conclude on Sunday, June 7th with a Morning Worship Service followed a panel discussion on Umoja and Uhuru and the always highly anticipated Heritage Parade and Festival at Trevor Park.

City of Yonkers Resident Alert System

Did you know that Mayor Mike Spano and the City of  Yonkers have launched a new Mass Notification service that allows the City of Yonkers to dispatch mass alerts to its residents?

Overview of the Yonkers Resident Alert System

To opt-in, simply enter your contact information and subscribe to receive notifications of interest based on your location.

Opt-out at any time by removing your contact information from your profile.

This system allows the City to share critical information quickly and efficiently in situations such as missing person alerts, severe weather, unexpected road closures, building and neighborhood evacuations.

Speaking of severe weather conditions, this system can also be used by DPW to coordinate snow plowing and removal during the winter months.  The City now has the ability to alert residents as DPW crews arrive in their neighborhood to move their vehicles as needed to allow for curb to curb snow removal.

Yonkers, NY Best Kept Secret.... The 12th Annual YoHo Open Studio Weekend May 2nd-3rd 2015

Calling all artists, art enthusiasts and "creatives" like myself, looking for a day of fun and discovery.  The 12th Annual YoHo Open Studio weekend Saturday and Sunday, May 2nd-3rd 2015 is easily the best kept secret in the City of Yonkers.  

I visited the YoHo Open Studio for the first time in 2014 with my 

mom, who is quite the accomplished closet artist herself and she was quite impressed with the eclectic variety of offerings we discovered on our visit.

All of the artists we met were friendly and engaging as we toured the different studios, and there are many.  The artists freely shared their work, individual stories and the inspiration for their work which in many cases were as intriguing as their offerings.

While weekends during the Spring are generally the busiest for me as a Realtor, I will have to block out some time for this event.  I will definitely be returning this year with family and friends to share the fun.  I will also remember to wear comfortable walking shoes as there is so much to see and do throughout the sprawling complex that house the studios.Hope to see you there.

Shared public servicesBesides residential use, county departments and local municipal offices use the Mobile Shredder to free up valuable inventory space often occupied by outdated documents, while at the same time, it ensures that confidentiality is preserved.
